Shirlyn Wong was born in New York but now lives nomadically. She received her M.F.A. in Film and Television Production from New York University Tisch School of the Arts in 2014. Her short films have broadcasted on P.B.S. affiliate O.P.B. for the Oregon Lens Series and played at festivals such as Indie Memphis (Audience Award winner), BendFilm, Palm Springs ShortsFest, Spokane International (Audience Award winner), McMinnville Shorts (Best Story winner) and Seattle Shorts Film Festival to name a few. Her films have been reviewed in various publications such as Indie Wire, Variety, HuffingtonPost, Seattle Times and Seattle Weekly. Shirlyn received her B.A. from Brown University with a double concentration in Computer Science and Art-Semiotics.
In 2013, Shirlyn was named the US winner of Jameson First Shot. The winning short screenplay was then produced by Jameson Whiskey, Kevin Spacey, Dana Brunetti and the award winning Trigger Street Productions. She went on to direct two-time Academy Award nominee, Willem Dafoe in the film, "Love's Routine" which has over 1.2 million views on YouTube. As of recent, Shirlyn is writing a US/China co-production feature film for Guanya Media Productions. The film was named one of the top film pitches for emerging filmmakers at Zhejiang Film Festival. She still continues to write and direct her own pieces. Shirlyn enjoys driving her 1978 pink motorhome, making sake and muppets, and playing the ukulele. You may already tell, she has a thing for Hippos. |
